Cannabis might be the most recognized plant in the world. It is prevalent among recreational users, and its medical benefits have been proven beyond any doubt. Cannabis can be consumed in various ways, which can lead to different physical and psychological effects.

Though people have a reasonably open and accepting mindset about cannabis these days, it wasn’t always like this, in fact, even up to this day, some people believe that cannabis is a dangerous and harmful substance.

Still, the increase in the awareness about cannabis in a positive light, and numerous medical benefits that have been proven by scientists, have led to the legalization of cannabis in the US and Canada.

Though smoking cannabis does have some harmful effects on the body, because of the carcinogens in smoke, vaping it or using it in edibles is safe. Therefore, instead of burning your buds, use them in a vape pen, which won’t disintegrate the bud, and will leave some remains that can be useful.

There is still a fair amount of cannabinoids left in cannabis strains after they are vaped. That’s right! Already been vaped weed (or as it is called ABV weed in the cannabis community) can be repurposed to make cannabis oil.

Cannabis oil has several advantages in the medical field, and it can also be used to make edible cannabis recipes. Extracting cannabis oil from a vaped bud is an easy and straightforward process, and it is the best way to get the most out of your buds. Cannabis oil is widely used for treating chronic pain and inflammation without any side effects that are introduced by pharmaceutical drugs. It can also aid the digestive system, and it can be beneficial in countering stress.

However, not many people know how to get oil out of their ABV weed. Therefore, today I am going to tell you the precise method for cannabis oil extraction. Keep reading to learn more.

How to transform vaped weed into cannabis oil ?

  1. Some already vaped weed strains
  2. A solvent oil of your choice, like almond or coconut oil.
  3. A stove
  4. A pressure cooker, Dutch oven, or oil extracting machine
  5. A fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth

After you have gathered these items, you can start extracting cannabis oil. The entire process can be divided into three simple steps, which are explained in detail below.

Step 1 - Decarboxylate your cannabis buds

The cannabinoids that are present in trichomes of fresh marijuana strains have an extra carboxyl ring. Before being decarboxylated, cannabis plants contain THCA instead of THC. In its raw form, cannabis does have some medicinal benefits, but to gain the full essence of the plant in your oil. It would be best if you converted the THCA into THC through decarboxylation.

This process is essential for fresh cannabis strains that haven’t been vaped already; however, the stain is subjected to heat, and the extra carboxyl rings are already broken off if the strain is vaped. If you are extracting cannabis oil from new strains, you should bake it in the oven for about thirty minutes before you move toward extracting the oil.

Step 2 - cook decarboxylated cannabis in the carrier oil

There are three primary ways in which the oil can be extracted from cannabis buds, check out the detail of these procedures below.

The Slow Cooker method

Though this process maybe a little more complicated than using an oil extraction machine, slow cookers are significantly more accessible. Moreover, the final product obtained by both methods is quite similar, so if you don’t want to invest in a purpose-built machine, using a slow cooker is a great option.

Start by adding coconut oil, or any other carrier oil of your choice along with the ABV marijuana in a slow cooker and let it cook for at least four to eight hours. This will promote the extraction of the cannabinoids from the bud, into the carrier oil. Though some people leave the cannabis to cook for longer, the cannabinoids are usually extracted within the first eight hours, and letting the process go on for longer seems like a waste of time and resources.

Stovetop method

This is another simple and easy method to extract oil from cannabis strains if you don’t have a pressure cooker. Moreover, this process uses more water; so, you can get a precise final product. However, the drawback of the process is that it can be quite aromatic. Your entire home will start to smell like weed, which can be deal-breaking for some people.

Start by adding the cannabis strains and the carrier oil in a Dutch oven with at least two or three cups of water. Place the Dutch oven on a stovetop and let the mixture boil. Once the mixture starts bubbling, lower the heat and let it simmer for three to four hours. Keep checking on the pot regularly and add water as needed.

Use a purpose-built cannabis oil extraction machine

There are numerous oil extraction machines available in the market. Some are manually operated and other work on electricity. However, the magical butter machine is an exceptional appliance that can be used to extract cannabis oil from already vaped cannabis strains.

All you have to do is add the ingredients into the machine and let it go for an hour. These machines do have their benefits, but they aren’t suitable for large batches of oil because they have a low capacity.

Step 3 - strain the oil and store in a suitable container

The final stage of the process is straining the oil to remove the cannabis strains. Cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer can be used for this step.

You can use the oil without straining it, but if you want a clear and easy to use final product straining it is the way to go. Moreover, if you are planning to add the oil to any edibles, straining the oil is essential. Put the oil in a container, and it is ready to use for numerous applications.

Lastly, we know that cannabis has a lot of medicinal benefits, and because of the lack of side-effects, it is an excellent alternative to many pharmaceutical drugs. Using cannabis, especially if you aren’t smoking it, is way safer than smoking tobacco, and on the plus side, if you vape weed instead of smoking it, you can also rescue the buds to make cannabis oil. We understand then making cannabis oil at home may feel like a daunting task, but if you follow the instructions mentioned in this post, you will be able to do it quickly.
