How to choose an ideal strain for closet growing

If you’re limited to a closet grow you’re going to want to carefully choose what strain to grow. Some marijuana plants can grow super tall, others can be very bushy, some smell so strongly it’ll pass through walls, etc. The plant’s height, smell and flowering length are the 3 main factors you want to consider when you’re growing marijuana in a closet.

Plant Size

Many indoor growers have to limit themselves to a rather small tent so how big and bushy the plant grows is important. Some small grow tents are no higher then 5 feet (1.5m) so this list has strains that don’t go over 3 feet. Another important criteria is how compact the plant grows. Some strains are going to develop long branches, which you want to avoid in a closet. Autoflowering strains are the most compact but we’ve included a couple of non autoflow strains if that’s what you’re looking for.

Plant Aroma

Some plants can smell stroongly, dang that stuff will be stink up the place 3 apartments down. If you’re doing a closet grow in a building full of nosy neighbors you’re going to want a strain with a discreet aroma. It’s often not advertised if a strain doesn’t have a particularly strong odor. The strategy here is to be on the lookout and avoid strains that are described as having a “strong”, “beautiful”, “powerful” aroma or smell. 

Flowering length

If you’re looking to grow a good amount of bud in a small closet : you’re going to need fast flowering strains. The faster your plant goes through it’s flowering cycle, the faster you can yield your buds and plant a new strain!
